Polo High School’s September Student of the Month Lena Baumann, 18, of Polo, plans to study premedical or predental biochemistry.

Lena Baumann, 18, of Polo, is Polo High School’s September Student of the month. Her parents are Michael and Donna Baumann, her sister is Sadoe, 15, and her brother is Eli, 13.

Favorite class: I love Spanish. I love learning the language, but mostly because Senora (Alicia) Garrett makes it so fun!

Least-favorite class: Every class has its moments, but I don’t necessarily hate any of them.

Favorite teacher: Gina Cole, science. She’s always pushing us to succeed, even though her classes can be very challenging at times. I feel like she’s preparing us for college.

School activities in which you participate: Cross country, volleyball, track, Student Council, Leadership team, Spanish, Drama and Outdoor clubs and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

Civic, church, volunteer or activities in which you participate: Polo Area Community Theater

Do you have a job? This summer I worked at the concession stands at the Polo Pool and Park.

How would you describe your group of friends? We’re all academically focused, so we’re always pushing one another to succeed.

What will you do after high school? I plan to go to a 4-year university to major in either premedical or predental biochemistry.

What is something you learned in high school that you think you’ll never use? I don’t really see a practical application for finding derivatives.

What kind of music are you listening to? I love classic rock, specifically from the ’60s and ’70s.

What’s one thing in your life you can’t do without? I love my family, and I don’t know what I’ll do without them in college.

What is your advice for surviving high school? Avoid procrastination like the plague.

If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be? I’d love if we had a tennis team. It’s hard to have a ton of sports at a small school.

What scares you? My future, because there are so many choices and uncertainties.

If you could try any job for the day, what would it be? I would love to drive a race car ... just for the day!

If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? I’d love to be alone on one of those private tropical beaches. It just seems so peaceful, and I can’t stand cold weather.

What is a good book you have read recently? “The Girls“ by Emma Cline was really riveting, and it made me step back and take a look at myself.

What is your proudest moment? Getting through my heavy junior-year workload while still maintaining straight A’s.

Who is your hero/role model? My mom and dad have always been my greatest role models, and I know they’ll always have my back.

What do you think your life will be like 10 years from now? I hope to have completed most, if not all of my schooling and be employed somewhere.

Is there anything else you want people to know about you? I once won a hula hoop competition.

Shout out to: My grandma
