DIXON – Sauk Valley Community College was recognized Oct. 19 at the "ALL IN" Challenge Awards Ceremony. The award rewards colleges and universities committed to increasing college student voting rates.
Sauk earned Best in Class Awards, having the highest voting rate and most improved voting rate for participating small, 2-year public institutions. It also earned the bronze seal campus status. More than 30 awards were announced at the event at the Washington D.C. Newseum.
Student participation in elections has increased in the last few years. A recent report from the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement, shows that between the 2012 presidential election, and the 2016 presidential election, student voting went from 45.1 percent of eligible voters to 48.3 percent.
Nearly 300 campuses, enrolling more than 4 million students, have joined the Challenge since its launch in summer 2016.
