ROCK ISLAND – Pat Chapinski, 72, passed into eternity Friday Oct. 27, 2017, at St. Anthony Care Center in Rock Island after a lengthy illness.
Pat was born Aug. 29, 1945, in Sterling, the sixth child of Leo S. and Ena Mary (Lyons) Chapinski. She attended St. Mary Grade School in Sterling, and was a 1963 graduate of Newman Central Catholic High School in Sterling.
Pat attended DePaul University in Chicago and Sauk Valley Community College, graduating from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa, with a bachelor of arts in accounting. Her accounting and auditing career included First National Bank of Sterling, Quaker Oats of Chicago, and National Credit Union Administration as a federal auditor. Pat was appointed the first municipal accountant of Rock Falls from 1977 to 1980 by Mayor Pignatelli.
Pat treasured her childhood memories, and took pride in being a member of the “Wallace Street” group, residing there until 1960. Her affiliation with Relay for Life-American Cancer Society was in memory of her many friends and family who succumbed to the dreaded disease. She enjoyed spending time with her best furry friend, Aubry Ann.
Pat is survived by her partner, Sara Meyer of Bettendorf, Iowa; Sara’s children and grandchildren, Andrea (Allen) Swayzer, Antone, Alon and Anya; Stephanie Korf, Reese; Roxane Korf; J.P. (Melissa) Korf, Miles; her sisters, Ena Delores (Floyd) Iverson of Grayling, Michigan, and Rosemary Pizarro of Rock Falls; sisters-in-law, Carol Chapinski of Rockford, and Bertie Chapinski of Matlock, Washington; her aunts, Yetta Todd of Morrison, and Marie Czlapinski of Milladore, Wisconsin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pat was predeceased by her parents; her stepfather, Ferris A. Rynearson; her godparents, John and Cecelia Brennan of Chicago; and her three brothers, Robert (Rose) Chapinski, Leo Chapinski Jr., and Arthur Donald Chapinski.
Per Pat’s wishes, a celebration of life gathering will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the chapel at St. Anthony Nursing Center, 767 30th St., Rock Island. Burial of cremains will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the family plot at Calvary Cemetery, at LeFevre & Freeport roads, Sterling. Trimble Funeral Home in Moline handled arrangements.
