FRANKLIN GROVE – Robert Eugene Logan, 85, of Franklin Grove, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, at his home.

He was born Oct. 29, 1931, to John B. and Lottie V. (Pitts) Logan, in Lindenwood, Ogle County. Robert E. “Bob” Logan owned and operated Bob Logan Tractor Co. in Franklin Grove, and several other business ventures in Franklin Grove, for more than 60 years. He bought and sold farm equipment and tractors throughout the Midwest and southern Canada, and shipped parts throughout the U.S., and into several foreign countries. Through the years he sold everything from cantaloupes to Christmas trees, and traded for such unusual items as two live brown bears and 400 pairs of shoes.

He played the guitar, enjoyed country and folk music, and expressed great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He hauled scrap metals from the age of 14 and had a load in his pickup to go to the scrapyard at the time of his death.

Bob Logan is survived by his daughters, Linda S. Deets and Debra (Tom) Mead of Amboy, Julie A. Logan of Dixon, and Jeri Dempsey of Franklin Grove; and sons, Robert E. Logan of Franklin Grove and John A. Logan of Rockford. He also is survived by his sister, Merle Sherman of New Mexico; and brothers, William J. Logan of Ocala, Florida, and Gary (Brenda) Logan of Brownwood, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Misti A. Logan and sons, Richard A. Logan in infancy, and Stuart J. Logan. He also was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Frances Huxol, Jeanette Gilroy, Marlene Ebaugh, Hedy McCoy, and Jo O’Briant; and brother, John B. Logan.

Private graveside services for the family will be Friday at Franklin Grove Cemetery, after a family viewing. An open house celebration of Bob Logan’s life will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 14, for family and his many friends to enjoy live music, personal sharing and refreshments at Franklin Grove American Legion Hall. Beverage-Lyons Family Funeral Home in Ashton handled arrangements.
