STERLING – A Whiteside County Sheriff’s candidate is making a campaign stop at Saturday’s United Way of Whiteside County chili cookoff.

Sheriff’s Lt. John Booker, 50, will cook chili in the parking lot at the corner of East Fourth Street and First Avenue, joined by his boss, Sheriff Kelly Wilhelmi, who has endorsed him.

Booker, 50, a Democrat, is one of five candidates vying to be the next county sheriff. Find Booker for Sheriff on Facebook for more information.

Also running for are Whiteside County Sheriff patrol Sgt. Kris Schmidt; Mike Lewis, 46, of Rock Falls, a Whiteside County deputy; former Rock Falls police officer Tim Fisher, 46, of Rock Falls; and Clark Mortensen Jr., 47, of Erie, a police officer and firefighter for Quad City International Airport.

The primary is March 20; the general election is Nov. 6, 2018.
