A few thoughts on far-reaching choices in Dixon

I live outside the Dixon city limits. However, decisions made by people in charge affect my life in many ways. Just a few thoughts, but in no particular order.

Why do elected officials feel the need to hire outside companies to tell them what to do with money?

Most expensively, the Dixon School Board. What was the total amount spent on experts concerning the need for a new high school? At least the board had enough money left over to spend a million dollars on property that was overvalued.

The Park Board seems to have had blinders on concerning the Project GenNex organization. (I'm not a member and know no one involved.) Was the board unaware of the GenNex plans? Why did the board not look into insurance issues earlier?

The Park Board and the City Council ought to get together to discuss Memorial Pool. What a terrible fate to have left the pool fall into ruin. Is that because it is not on the north side of the Rock River? Just think if Rita Crundwell had made Memorial Pool one of her projects!
