Melinda R. Guentert

STERLING – Melinda R. Guentert, 87, of Sterling, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Melinda was born Nov. 30, 1929, in Sterling, the daughter of Jessie and Maria Gonzalez. She worked as an aide in health care. She married Rudolph Galvan Sr. in January 1949 in Dixon. He died Sept. 29, 1999. She then married Frank Guentert on Nov. 29, 2000. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where she was active in the prayer groups and had served as a past Eucharistic minister. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband, Frank; her children, Rudy (Nikki) Galvan of Sterling, Kathy (Kenneth) Fossett of Sterling, David (Terri) Galvan of Sterling, Marta (Todd) Wiggins of Polo, and Nicholas (Debra) Galvan of Sterling; her brother, James (Barb) Lopez of Sterling; 16 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Jamie Dingley and Rudy Galvan III; and two sons, Michael and Rick Galvan.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling, with the Rev. James Keenan officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.
