STERLING – Ronald S. Croy, 76, of Sterling, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, at his home.

He was born Sept. 11, 1940, in Bluefield, West Virginia, the son of Robert Edmund and Maxine (Smith) Croy. He was a 1959 graduate of Rock Falls High School. Ron married Evelyn K. Bright on Nov. 28, 1981, in Sterling. He had worked as a truck driver, for 23 years for Swiss Valley Farms, and then for 9 years for Rock River Ready Mix, retiring in 1997. He was a member of Rock Falls United Methodist Church, Sons of American Legion of Sterling American Legion Post 296, and the Teamsters Union. Ron enjoyed golfing, and was known among family as the “lawn jart” champion. Ron was a loving father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; two daughters, Kelly A. (Jeff) Wasson and Brandi K. Schuldt, both of Sterling; three sons, Phillip J. (Deanna) Croy and Robert A. (Shelia) Schrader, both of Sterling, and Brad A. (Becky) Schrader of Rock Falls; his sister, Theresa Mikoychik of Hampton, Virginia; his brothers, Robert (Marilyn) Croy of Aurora, Jimmy Croy of Hampton, and Steven Croy of Virginia; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Phyllis Boyd and Bette Eden; his brother, William Croy; and his special niece, Jessica Strader.

A gathering of friends and family will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gaffey Home Nursing and Hospice.
