Making slime and smiles at GPA’s Youth Day

Micah Valdivia, 3, of Rock Falls eagerly waits for a batch of slime to be whipped up Saturday at the Giving Power to Adolescent's Youth Day at Grandon Civic Center in Sterling. Kids mixed together a few common household ingredients and glommed on to the goop during the youth advocacy group’s annual event. This theme of this year’s free Youth Day was Story Book. Guests got to meet and play games with their favorite storybook and movie characters, as well as enjoy some live music, concessions and other family-friendly activities. The mission of the group, according to its Facebook page, is to "provide a safe and positive environment for young adults to improve and unite the community as one while building new friendships, developing assets, and creating social acceptance."
