STERLING – A benefit to fight breast cancer will honor a Rock Falls Elementary School District 13 teacher who died last year from the disease.
The first Michelle’s Misfits memorial fundraiser to recognize Michelle Northcutt will be June 3 at Tin Roof Tavern, 13464 Galt Road. Craft sales will be from
3 to 7 p.m., while a drum rave performance will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Northcutt, 50, died June 4. She was a 1984 graduate of Rock Falls High School, and was a teacher since 1988. From 2001 to 2016, Northcutt taught in District 13. Her husband, David, is one of the benefit organizers, and they have a daughter, Aubry.
Michelle was known for her flag football team, Michelle’s Misfits, which competed in the Touchdowns for TaTas breast cancer fundraiser. The benefit started in 2013, with funds going to help nonprofits for those affected by breast cancer.
Benefit organizer Samantha Parks said booths are still available for crafters, for $40 per booth.
Checks should be made to Michelle’s Misfits. Vendors can call Parks at 815-716-0046 or David Northcutt at 815-716-3520 to sign up or for more information.
Monetary donations can be made to Michelle’s Misfits and dropped off at any local Sauk Valley Bank branch: 201 W. Third St. and 3319 E. Lincolnway, both in Sterling; 904 First Ave., Rock Falls; and 300 Walton Drive, Dixon.
