WEST BROOKLYN – Kala A. Thompson, 75, of West Brooklyn, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at her residence.
Kala was born Oct. 8, 1941, in Dixon, to Carl and Helen (Clayton) Fassig. She graduated in 1959 from Mendota High School, and was a graduate of Decatur School of Nursing. She began her career as a surgical technologist in Decatur, was involved in the manufacturing and hospitality fields in the Mendota area, and was a lifelong farmer in West Brooklyn. She was a devoted caregiver to her parents and others. Kala was a thoughtful grandmother, a supportive mom, a fun-loving traveling companion, and an avid Chicago Blackhawks fan. Kala belonged to Order of the Eastern Star and Mendota Moose Lodge.
She is survived by three daughters, Michelle Meyer of West Brooklyn, the Rev. Heidi (Paul) Heimgartner of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, and Heather (Randy Sthokal) Skumatz of Evansville, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Luke and Jonathan Heimgartner, and Alden and Preston Sthokal; and many beloved cousins.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. today at Schwarz Funeral Home in Mendota. A private family service will follow.
