A few weeks ago, my mother, Shirley Ebaugh, an Alzheimer’s patient, passed away at Avonlea Cottage of Dixon. She had been in the care of the staff at Avonlea – an assisted living facility and dedicated memory care community – for nearly 2 years.
I am writing to you because I believe the level of care that my mom received at Avonlea was absolutely outstanding, and I hope that more people in the greater Dixon and Sauk Valley area become aware of the tremendous services that Avonlea provides.
Under the guidance of Alma Wood, a licensed administrator and the director of nursing, along with the facility’s experienced and caring staff, Avonlea Cottage more than fulfilled its mission. Without question, Avonlea made quality of life – both for the residents and their families – a first priority.
They focused on my mom as an individual and developed a custom care plan for her that took into account her personality, the dignity she deserved, and the personal assistance she needed as her mental disease advanced. This was all provided in a structured, secure and loving environment.
I want to thank everyone at Avonlea Cottage for your care and compassion, and for making my mom’s last days as comfortable as possible. My family and I will forever be grateful.
