Brinkley, the Sterling Police Department's new comfort dog, checks out the crowd from the gym floor at Rock Falls Middle School on Friday. Brinkley and her partner, officer Nicole Diehl, joined Susan Jakobs, a dog coach, at the school to talk to students about training dogs and Brinkley's role at the department.

STERLING – The public is invited to meet the newest – and cutest – member of the city’s police force on Saturday.

Brinkley, the department’s new police pup, will be at Smoked On 3rd BBQ Bistro & Catering, 14 E. Third St., for a meet-and-greet from noon to 2 p.m. Brinkley will be available for photos and petting. The restaurant will offer smoked hot dogs and lemonade for donations.

Brinkley is a community comfort dog that joined the department’s ranks last month. Her tour of duty? Community relations and helping bring comfort to people in tense or trying situations. Brinkley will attend special events and work with community youth and abuse victims.
