For nearly 2 years, Black Hawk College administration has been cutting staff, faculty, programs and courses.
Instead of implementing marketing and recruiting strategies to grow enrollment, the answer has been to cut programs. Unless we vote to elect new board members with a vision toward the future and not a shortsighted view of the present, we may very well lose many of the benefits that come from having BHC in our district.
Steve Spivey and Jon Looney are the two best candidates for the BHC Board. Both have positive ties and experiences with the College and feel the entire district needs to be moving in a different direction.
Jon Looney is the former director of information technology for BHC and is currently IT director for Union Federal Savings and Loan.
Steve Spivey served as chairman of the board at Black Hawk College and provided exemplary leadership when the College was strong, stable and growing.
It’s time for a change in leadership and decision-making within the Board of Trustees at BHC. There are two seats open, and I urge voters to support Jon Looney and Steve Spivey by voting for them on April 4.
Note to readers: The Black Hawk College District takes in part of southwestern Whiteside County, including Erie.
