Ashton-Franklin Center January Student of the Month: Dakota Hurd

Ashton-Franklin Center High School's January Student of the Month is Dakota Hurd. After graduation, she plans to major in animal sciences at Michigan State University.

Dakota Hurd, 18, is Ashton-Franklin Center High School's January Student of the Month. Her parents are Heather and Todd Grove, and her brother is Christopher Stauffer, 22.

Favorite class: Calculus. I like doing math.

Least-favorite class: Anatomy. It requires a lot of memorization.

Favorite teacher: Dan Sheets, pop culture-current events. He’s very helpful and is good at explaining things.

School activities in which you participate: Cheerleading, FFA, National Honor Society

Civic, church, volunteer or other activities in which you participate: Pegasus Special Riders, Ashton Animal Clinic, Granny Rose Animal Shelter

How would you describe your group of friends? Hilarious. They constantly are making me laugh. My group consists of only four people, so we are a very close-knit group.

What will you do after high school? Major in animal sciences at Michigan State University

What is something you learned in high school that you think you will never use? Law of Cosines 

What kind of music are you listening to? A little bit of everything

Is there a celebrity who you look like? I have been told by some people I slightly resemble Emma Stone.

What's the one thing in your life you can't do without? Dogs

What is your advice for surviving high school? Ask a lot of questions, and always try to be on time. It will only benefit you in the long run.

If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be and why? The dress code, because sometimes I feel it is too strict.

What scares you? Spiders. They are gross.

What's something about you that nobody knows? I hate vegetables.

If you could try any job for a day, what would it be? Zookeeper

If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? Europe. There are so many countries there to visit.

What is the last good book you read? "Before I Fall," by Lauren Oliver. I think the book teaches a lot of good lessons to teen girls.

What is your proudest moment? When I was accepted to Michigan State

Who is your hero or role model? My parents, because they are the strongest people I know

What do you think your life will be like 10 years from now? I just will be starting my career as a veterinarian, so I most likely will be busy starting my life outside college.

Is there anything else you would want people to know about you? I collect shot glasses.

Is there someone you'd like to send a shout out to? My family. They’ve always pushed my to do my best and be the best person I can be.
