Karlene M. Koch

AMBOY – Karlene M. Koch, 79, of Amboy, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Karlene was born Aug. 11, 1937, in Leaf River, the daughter of Edward "Al" and Winona (Burright) Blake. She attended Amboy schools, graduating with the Class of 1955. She furthered her education at Rock Valley College and Illinois Valley Community College, through her employment at HCC Inc. in Mendota, where she worked for 40 years before retiring in 2007. Karlene married Charles Koch on July 6, 1957. He proceeded her in death on Nov. 29, 2004. Karlene loved to travel with her husband, play golf, spend time with her grandchildren, and her many good friends. Karlene was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Amboy. 

She is survived by four daughters, Kristine (Greg) Welker of Delavan, Wisconsin, Joan (Terry) Brunt of Amboy, Angela Koch of Cowgill, Missouri, and Laura (Mark) Hicks of Amboy; two sons, Tony Koch of Amboy and Dan (Laurie) Koch of Amboy; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Jim Bender of Kearney, Missouri; one brother, Ed (Kathy) Blake of Amboy; and several nieces and nephews.

Karlene also was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Susie McCormick, two brothers in infancy, and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy, with a 7:30 p.m. rosary. Visitation also will be from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday, and the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy, with the Rev. Timothy Draper officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Rock River Valley, and Teen Turf in Amboy.
