Sikkema wins bowling sectional

Warriors wrestle to 4th at NIB-12; Hawks claim 2nd place at LeRoy

Fulton bowler Seth Sikkema won the sectional title at Vernon HIlls with a six-game score of 1,401. Rock Falls’ Mitchel Guzzle was just 10 pins back, taking second with a score of 1,391.

Sikkema had a high game of 244, that in his first game of the day. Guzzle’s top game was a 266 in his fifth game.

Both will advance to the state meet at St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon on Friday and Saturday.

Oregon’s Austin Strite finished 41st with a six-game score of 1,216, and a high game of 215.


Warriors 4th at NIB-12:
Isaac Figueroa (126 pounds) and Turner Garcia (152) each placed second in their weight classes as Sterling finished fourth at the 10-team Northern Illinois Big 12 Tournament at Kaneland.

The Warriors wound up with 132 points, behind Yorkville (184.5), DeKalb (178) and Ottawa (140).

Third-place finishers included Andrew Rodriguez (113), Noah Garcia (132) and Elias Edmondson (160), while Reed Heeren (120) was fourth. Isaiah Figueroa (138), Tyson Hall (170) and Moises Lopez (182) were each fifth, and Ethan Edmondson (145) was sixth.

Steamers 6th at Orion: Tyler Fleetwood won a title at 120 pounds to lead Fulton to sixth place at the 19-team Bob Mitton Invitational in Orion.

The Steamers had 124.5 points, behind Orion (183.5), Sherrard (153), Knoxviklle (147.5), Mercer County (145.5) and Clinton (145).

Fulton’s Alfredo Henderson was second at 106 pounds, while Taylor Fleetwood (285) was third. Fourth-place finishers included Tony Heinitz (138), Cole Grant (152) and Eli Pannell (182).

Erie-Prophetstown wound up 11th with 74.5 points. Leading the Panthers was 160-pound champion Garrett Passmore. Cameron Abell was third at 106 pounds.

Hawks 2nd at LeRoy: Anthony Marchetti won a championship at 195 pounds to lead Oregon second place at the 16-team Randy Bowman Invitational in LeRoy.

The Hawks had 142 points, behind Carbondale, which had 145.5.

Jacob Milliman was second at 106 pounds for Oregon, while Noah Paul (120), Chase Clark (132) and Caleb Mennen (170) were third. Sawyer Foss (182) placed fourth.

Mustangs 17th at Clinton: Augustus Linke (120) and Brandon Meier (285) each placed fourth in their weight classes as Morrison finished 17th at the Bob Lueders Invitational in Clinton, Iowa.

West Carroll was 19th as a team. Josh Anderson took third at 285 pounds.

Girls basketball

Fulton 50, Rockridge 26: Fulton scored 21 points in the first quarter and cruised to a win over the visiting Rockets.

Eight different Steamers scored in the game, led by Jordan Price who had 18, 14 of them in the first half as Fulton jumped out to a 33-11 lead.

Sherrard 44, Erie 26: The Cardinals scored just one point in the fourth quarter in a loss to Sherrard at home.

Skylar Steimle scored seven points to lead Erie. Whitney Bramm and Taylor Steimle each scored five.

Boys swimming

Warriors 8th at UT: Brayden Wolf placed third in the 1-meter diving competition as Sterling finished eighth at the 12-team United Township Invitational in East Moline.

Wolf scored 313.6 points, behind Jhavian Dixon of Freeport (376.6) and Edward Sierra-Lee of UT (320.15).

The Warriors’ Zach Wade was fifth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.54, while Jack Wike was sixth in the 500 freestyle (5:27.46).

Sterling’s 200 freestyle relay foursome of Robby Christensen, Wade, Wike and Turner Morse was sixth in 1:37.16.
