Boys Roundup: Young scores 29 to pace Polo

Justin Young poured in 29 points to lead Polo to an 83-68 victory against Oregon on Tuesday night at the Blackhawk Center.

Also for the Marcos (12-6),
Braiden Soltow had 15 points, and Trevin Woodin added 14.

Cody Ebens drained six 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead the Hawks. Kole Mowry had 14 points, and Andrew Newman added 11.

Kewanee 58, Prophetstown 49: Juan Contreras Jr. poured in 27 points for the Boilermakers in a home win against the Prophets.

Fulton 43, Sherrard 40: Cody Sanderson scored 18 points as the Steamers pulled out a three-point win at home in a TRAC West game.

Rockridge 49, Morrison 30: The Rockets jumped ahead 12-3 after one. Morrison cut the lead to three at halftime, but Rockridge pulled away again with 19 points in the third quarter to win their TRAC West game in Morrison.

Bureau Valley 68, St. Bede 55: The Storm picked up a 13-point win at home in a TRAC East game.

Faith Christian 60, Rivermont 16: Hayden Sweet paced a balanced attack with 20 points as the Falcons won big in Davenport, Iowa.

Also for Faith Christian (12-3), Andrew Robertson had 15 points, and Trevor Hauk added 12.


West Carroll 45, Erie-Prophets-town 30: Trapper Hartman (106), Miguel Watkins (113), Aiden Sullivan (126), Cody Schmidt (170), Nate Schultz (182), Eli Dertz (195) and Josh Anderson (285) won bouts as the Thunder topped the Panthers in Savanna.

Garrett Passmore (160) and Lucas Carey (220) posted wins for Erie-Prophetstown.

Dixon 42, Ottawa 33: The Dukes recorded six pins and received a forfeit to account for their points in a home win against the Pirates.

Pinning their opponents were Colten Bishop (132), Bryce Christiansen (145), Sebastian Quintana (152), Clinton Schielein (160), Finn Brandon (170) and Andrew Wolber (182).


Sterling 104, Byron 71: Turner Morse won a pair of individual events to lead the Golden Warriors past the Tigers at the Duis Center.

Morse led the way in the 50 freestyle (24.48 seconds) and 100 freestyle (55.09). He also teamed with Arie Interone, Zach Wade and Robby Christensen to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:47.83.

Dixon student Caleb Carlson won the 100 butterfly (53.23) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.11) to lead the way for Byron. He also swam legs in the winning 200 medley relay (1:45.2) and 200 freestyle relay (1:37.02).

Men’s basketball

Carl Sandburg 80, Sauk Valley 74: The Skyhawks couldn’t hold onto a 42-32 halftime lead in a loss to the Chargers in Galesburg.

Karson Arrenholz finished with 17 points and seven assists, while Sean Chislom added 17 points and nine rebounds for Sauk Valley (8-9, 0-2 Arrowhead Conference). Malcolm Mabry chipped in nine points and nine boards.

Eric Williams topped Sandburg with 20 points, and Shane Maple added 17.
