ROCK FALLS – When I bit into The Bounty Hunter Burger at Whiskey Barrel Saloon, I was caught off guard by how sweet the burger was.
Was it from the bacon? The bun, maybe?
I looked at the description of the burger a second time, and I noticed the burger included WB's signature glaze. It was really tasty, so I wanted answers.
That's when I approached the owner, Raul Molina. I asked him point blank, what is in that glaze.
All he could do was stare at me with a devilish grin.
"I can't tell you what is in it," he said with a laugh.
The contents of the glaze remains a mystery to me, but it put the burger over the top.
The Bounty Hunter Burger is one of the many things on the food menu at Whiskey Barrel Saloon, which began serving food Jan. 3.
Molina, who owns the business with his wife, Jackie, opened Whiskey Barrel in the summer of 2014.
He said now is the right time to offer food.
"I wanted to get our hands wrapped around the bar first," Molina said. "I left the space open for a restaurant for the kitchen, but I didn't do it right away when we had the building built."
The kitchen is located between the bar and stage. Molina wants to people to approach the kitchen to order their food, then have a seat, and wait for their number to be called.
The menu is filled with bar favorites, such as hot wings, and the popular hamburgers.
The Bounty Hunter Burger has a pound of ground beef topped with bacon, tons of cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion and that mysterious signature glaze on a brioche bun.
"I hope you are hungry," Molina said before he brought the burger to me.
The burger was packed with flavor and that glaze worked really well with the bacon and the pepper jack cheese.
The menu also includes Mexican favorites such as tacos and burritos, which are made from a recipe inspired by Molina's mom, Josephine.
There also is a variety of appetizers available, such as french fries, beer battered onion rings, jalapeno poppers and mozzarella cheese sticks.
"Having food makes it more like a sports bar in here," Molina said. "There is nothing like this downtown."
The Bounty Hunter Burger is definitely worth venturing out in the cold to get.
