DIXON – State Rep. Tom Demmer, R-Dixon, will be co-chairman of the Illinois Future Caucus, he said in a news release Thursday.
The caucus is “a bipartisan group of young leaders who believe that cooperation, not conflict, should be the dominant political paradigm, and who are committed to working together to address the challenges facing the next generation of Illinoisans,” the release said.
The group of more than a dozen House reps will work in conjunction with the Congressional Future Caucus and similar groups in 11 other states.
More details on the new organization will be released at a news conference this morning, the release said.
In July, Demmer was pegged as one of 40 “emerging Illinois leaders” when he was named a member of the annual Gov. Jim Edgar Fellows Class, a program designed to “inspire bipartisan, inter-regional cooperation in addressing major challenges for the state.”
It is hosted by the University of Illinois Institute of Government and Public Affairs. Shortly after, he attended the program’s annual weeklong seminar, where he and fellow recipients from both parties gathered to discuss the future of the state.
