Bustos files for re-election; has at least two GOP opponents

As of 4:15 p.m. today, U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-East Moline, was the only Democratic candidate to file for her 17th Congressional District seat.

Bustos, who is seeking her third term, has at least two GOP opponents: Jack Boccarossa of Milan, who owns a tree farm, also filed his paperwork Monday, while Galesburg native Patrick Harlan, a fuel truck driver and president of the Knox County Tea Party, filed Friday morning.

The 17th district includes parts of Peoria, Tazewell and Winnebago Counties and all of Carroll, Fulton, Henderson, Henry, Knox, Mercer, Rock Island, Stephenson, Warren and Whiteside Counties.

The deadline to file is 5 p.m.

In the 16th District, incumbent Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Channahon, will compete with fellow Republican Colin M. McGroarty of Rockford, a technology consultant.

The primary is March 15. The general election is Nov. 8.
