Hearing set for wind farm request in Bureau County

PRINCETON – A hearing for a permit extension requested by developers of the proposed Walnut Ridge Wind Farm is planned for Monday.

The Bureau County Zoning Board of Appeals will conduct the hearing at 7 p.m. at the Metro Center, 837 Park Ave W in Princeton.

The request by project developer BHE Renewables would extend a previously granted conditional use permit that was to expire Dec. 31. The permit is for only use of the land; additional permits must be obtained for construction to begin.

The first permit for the project was granted in 2008, and extended in 2011. The permits are granted for 3-year periods.

After the hearings, the zoning board will make a recommendation to the Bureau County Board before it makes a decision on the extension request.

The expanse of the proposed wind farm would be 15,000 acres in Ohio, Walnut, Manlius, Bureau and Greenville townships.
