Roadwork to start next week in area

Published: Friday, Sept. 5, 2014 1:15 a.m. CST

STERLING – Two local roadwork projects will start next week.

Road repairs will begin Monday to a section of state Route 2 from 19th Avenue to Ninth Avenue.

The 0.7-mile section will be restricted to one lane. Workers will remove the existing surface, make pavement repairs, and resurface the roadway. Flaggers will direct traffic, and drivers should be prepared to stop for workers and construction equipment. Work should be completed by the end of October.

On Tuesday, repair and resurfacing will start on an 8-mile section of state Route 40 from First Street in Chadwick to Stover Avenue in Milledgeville. Flaggers will direct traffic past the project, with an expected mid-November completion date.

For more information, follow the state Department of Transportation at twitter.com/IDOTDistrict 2 or call 815-284-2271.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
