MORRISON – Patricia Jean Mathew, 80, of Morrison, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, at Pleasant View Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Morrison, from complications of multiple sclerosis.

She was born May 20, 1934, in Sterling, the daughter of Louise and Dillwyn Batcheller. Pat graduated in 1952 from Sterling High School as class valedictorian, and attended Valparaiso University in Indiana. She married Gerald Mathew on Sept. 16, 1953, and assisted her husband with their family farm for more than 40 years. She was a lifelong member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sterling. A loving wife and mother, Pat was very involved in her children’s activities, including serving as a 4-H leader for many years. She found much joy in music, gardening, traveling, and time spent with family and friends.

Pat is survived by her husband, Gerald; her children, Karen (Samuel) Marciano of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Richard (Jan) Mathew of Forsyth, and Julie (Todd) Engstrom of Rock Island; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Kathryn Louise.  

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Morrison. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with David Burge, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Round Grove Cemetery in Morrison.  

Memorials may be made to the church and Christ Lutheran School in Sterling.
