DIXON – Josephine Helen Howard, 70, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at her home in Dixon.

Josephine was born Sept. 3, 1943, in Portland, Oregon, the daughter of Pete and Fern Antonatos. She married Billy “Butch” Howard on April 30, 1960, in Vancouver, Washington. As a military wife, she traveled the world with her husband, and in later years, traveled throughout the United States. Josephine was at peace near the ocean, as was evidenced by her passion for seashells and the pictures, “flower” arrangements, and other knickknacks she crafted with them. Josephine also loved to go to the casino, where she would play slot machines, and prove her knack for picking the winner. Josephine had many friends in life, and was well-known in her Internet gaming community, spending her down time chatting to friends, and playing online games. Josephine was loved by all, and will be forever missed by her children, family, friends, and her devoted pets, Butchie, Jenny, and Tuxedo.

Josephine was the mother of three sons and two daughters, Scott (Cassandra) Howard, Samuel (Debbie) Howard, Michael (Anisa) Howard, and Maxine (Gary) Geibelstein, all of Sacramento, California, and Shirley (Robert) Bender of Dixon. She was the loving grandmother of 12 grandchildren, Armista (Michael) Tantarelli, Shane (Stephanie) Howard, Mitchell (Jessica) Howard, Danielle Foreman, Matthew Lazaro, Billy Foreman, Raymond Howard, Michael Howard, Joey Howard, and Jacob Adams, all of Sacramento, and Nickolas Howard and Teddy Howard, both of Dixon. She also had three great-grandchildren, Josh Hanks, Rilee Foreman, and Troy Howard.

She also was preceded in death by her parents.

There will be no visitation. A celebration of Josephine’s life will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the picnic shelter at Page Park in Dixon. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal Island. Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.
