MOUNT CARROLL – Police in two counties are still looking for a 20-year-old Roscoe man who, they say, led officers on a high-speed chase a week ago after an attempted traffic stop in Carroll County.

Matthew T. Ton is wanted on several charges in Winnebago and Carroll counties.

Milledgeville Police tried to stop a speeding vehicle, reportedly stolen in Rockford, on Old Mill Street in Milledgeville about 2:38 p.m. Aug. 28. Police chased the vehicle, believed to be driven by the suspect, at high speeds but lost sight of it and ended the chase.

Shortly after the chase in Milledgeville, Mount Carroll police officers saw the vehicle traveling west on Thomson Road near state Route 78. Another high-speed chase ensued through Thomson, and ended when the vehicle crashed on Sandridge Road, north of Three Mile Road.

The driver fled on foot into a cornfield. Several law enforcement agencies, with the help of a helicopter, searched the area, but no one was found.

About 4:45 p.m., a 911 call was received from the 3600 block of state Route 84 about a silver 2010 Mitsubishi Endeavor with Illinois plates P251963 that had been stolen. The vehicle was last seen traveling south on Route 84 from Thomson.

Ton is suspected of again fleeing from police about noon Tuesday after a reported retail theft in Machesney Park. Police said he fled in a green four-door Saturn Ion.

That chase ended when the Saturn crashed through a mailbox and a landscaping planter in Loves Park and continued into Rockford.

The Saturn and another vehicle were reported stolen Aug. 15 from a garage in Rockford. Police believe burglars gained access to the garage by stealing a woman’s purse on Aug. 10 at a Rockford church. The second stolen vehicle has been recovered.

Matthew T. Ton is 5 feet 8 inches tall, 145 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information on Ton is asked to call their local police department, Winnebago County Crime Stoppers at 815-963-7867 or Carroll County Crime Stoppers at 815-244-7867.
