ChiliFest to benefit Rosbrook Studio in Dixon

Event will feature live music, artwork

DIXON – Listen up, local chili lovers: The 9th Annual ChiliFest Benefit for Rosbrook Studio Co-op will bring back the heat from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 20 at Distinctive Gardens, 2020 Lowell Park Road.

The event will feature a chili cook-off, live music, artwork by Tim Drane, and the Thom and Kris hot dog stand.

The tasting will begin at 5 p.m., and awards will be presented at 8. The benefit  is picnic style, with attendees encouraged to bring their own cooler, chair and blanket. A minimum $3 donation is suggested for admission.

Those interested in entering a chili should contact Bud LeFevre at Distinctive Gardens by Wednesday at 815-285-0014. Entry is free.

The music

• The Lone Canary will play at 5 p.m. The band is a newly formed folk/Americana duo comprised of Rockford musicians Jesse Fox and Heather Camacho. The group has an acoustic, rootsy sound echoing the styles of The Civil Wars, Mumford and Sons, Cory Chisel and Joshua James, according to a news release.

• Catfish Dogs will play at 6 p.m. The band features local musicians Michael Duerst and Matt Fichter, and will provide an array of classic rock and roll, as well as acoustic music.

• KATG, an eight-piece band of coworkers, will play at 7 p.m. The band covers a wide mix of music from the past 50 years.

• Space Juice, featuring the Quintana brothers, will play at 8 p.m. The duo has been playing its brand of Latin flair with a dash of funk for more than 30 years.
