Two weekend activities filled with family fun

Published: Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014 1:15 a.m. CST

As parents, we would like to thank the Sauk Valley YMCA and the Firehouse of God Ministries for providing free, educational and family-fun activities these past two weekends.

At the YMCA, our girls had hands-on educational fun learning about animals that are right in our backyard. Information was shared from the DNR on the different types of fish we have in our Rock River, along with demonstrations from Wildlife Prairie Park in Peoria on an owl, eagle, snake and skunk.

The YMCA and other local businesses provided games, pool fishing, and lunch for all in attendance.

The Firehouse of God Ministries offered a lovely fire truck ride, smokehouse with active participation of children trying to find the stuffed bears, dressing the part as a firefighter, history of fire trucks and equipment along with inflatables and a wonderful free lunch.  Our daughters have been raving about their firefighter experience all day today.

Thank you to both of these places for their wonderful effort in providing family fun in the Sauk Valley. We sure appreciate it.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
