ASHTON – Ora Marie Halvorson, 83, of Ashton, passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at Franklin Grove Nursing Center.

She was born Sept. 20, 1930, in Rushford, Minnesota, to Ordin and Alice (Ness) Torkelson. She married Donald M. Halvorson on April 23, 1955, in Lanesboro, Minnesota. He passed away March 31, 2011.

Ora retired in 1990, after 20 years of service to Ashton School District 275. She received the Distinguished Service Award in 1998. She also had a great love of cats.

She is survived by her children, Paul (Tammy) Halvorson of Dixon, Ann (Scott) Rowley of Fontana, Wisconsin, and David (Barb) Halvorson of Chana; her grandchildren, Tiffany (Dustin) Pulliam of Fort Worth, Texas, Cassie Halvorson of Dixon, Jimmy Halvorson of Crete, Ryan (Stephanie) Halvorson of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Alice Rowley of Fontana, Wisconsin; and great-grandchildren, Norah Halvorson and Owen Pulliam.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, and the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church in Ashton, with the Rev. Jonathan Black officiating. Burial will be at Ashton Cemetery.

Beverage Lyons Family Funeral Home, 601 Richardson Ave. Ashton, is handling arrangements.
