ASHTON – Eleanor Marie Gatz, 99, of Ashton, passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon.

She was born Nov. 28, 1914, in Dixon, to Rummery and Mary (Pierson) Gatz. She was married in 1936 to J. Walter Spratt. Together, they owned and operated a trucking company. He preceded her in death in 1966. She continued to operate the business after Walter’s death. She married Edwin Gatz in 1969. He preceeded her in death in 1999. She also worked for several years at the Dixon State School.

She is survived by her niece, Barbara Morgan of Peotone; daughter in-law, Julie Gatz Hardesty of Chana; stepgrandchildren, Teri McFarland of Fort Myers, Florida, Tracy Seaman of Cape Corral, Florida, Eric (Maribel) Smith of Freeport, Florida, Dana (Tom) Stables of Naperville, and Scott Garman of York, United Kingdom; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Kenneth Pittman.

A private graveside service for the family will be held. Beverage Lyons Family Funeral Homes, 601 Richardson Ave., Ashton, is handling arrangements.
