Raymond D. Verdick

ROCK FALLS – Raymond D. Verdick, 68, of Rock Falls, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at home, surrounded by his family.

Raymond was born July 10, 1946, the son of Dean and Doris (Hansen) Verdick, in Sterling. He married Edith Miller on Sept. 24, 1966, in Fort Riley, Kansas. She preceded him in death on Aug. 16, 1999. Raymond served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a crane mechanic with Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. for 35 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 2783 and American Legion Post 902 in Rock Falls. Raymond loved to spend time outdoors, and was an avid fisherman.  

He is survived by one son, Gale (Stacy) Verdick of Aurora; one daughter, Sandy (Tom) Garcia of Aurora; six grandchildren, Sara, Jessica and Jenna Verdick, and Tommy, Joey, and Edith Garcia, all of Aurora; his special friend, Pam Stephens of Rock Falls; four sisters, Barbara (Marvin) Bohnert of Joliet, Betty (Steve) Snitchler of Dixon, Helen Blackert of Rockford, and Lois (Randy) Temple of Morrison; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Tampico Memorial Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
