Charles W. Eads

PROPHETSTOWN – Charles William Eads, 83, of Prophetstown, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014.

Charles was born Jan. 13, 1931, in Lyndon, to Leroy Freeman and Nellie (Russell) Eads. He lived in Lyndon growing up, then moved to Erie and lived there from 1966 to 1980. In 1980, he moved to Prophetstown, and lived there for 34 years. He married Verna Margaret Oltmanns on Nov. 26, 1959, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sterling. As a member of St. John Lutheran Church, he taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Loyal Lutherans. He was a 70-plus-year member of the Boy Scouts of America. He also was a member of the Erie Rotary Club, and was a foster parent for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Verna; one daughter, Deborah (Norbert) Pempe of Morris; one son, Charles Daniel “Dan” Eads of Prophetstown; five grandchildren, Norbert A., Remington (Jean), Sterling (Jessie Anders), Arianna Pempe, and Czarina (Don) Ruffatto; and four great-grandchildren, Xander, Kent, Logan, and Kaedyn Pempe.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence “Bud,” Leroy, and Keith Eads; and two sisters, Vi Knox and Eleanor Boonstra.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday and the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Sterling. Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling is handling arrangements.

A memorial has been established.
