Published: Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014 1:15 a.m. CDT

ROCK FALLS – Rock Falls Voluntourism is looking for help Saturday and Sunday with cleanup and maintenance work along the Hennepin Canal Trail.

Projects include fixing potholes and root damage on the trail; painting a large barn; powerwashing the lock at the head of the canal; painting guardrails at the canal’s entry points; and painting the walls under the bridges.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at the lock and the work will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lunch at 1 p.m. All ages are welcome; children need adult chaperones and insurance waivers must be signed. Workers are asked to bring dirt shovels, garden rakes, pickaxes, and brooms.

On Sunday, 15 National Guard volunteers will help.
