Lillian Peters

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Lillian “Elaine” Nell Peters, 63, of Clinton, Iowa, went home to her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Lillian was born July 27, 1951, the daughter of William and Lucinda (Tanner) Yarbrough. She was a 1969 graduate of Sterling High School. On Dec. 23, 1989, she was united in marriage to Willie Peters.

Lillian was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and a member of the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Clinton, and a past member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Sterling.

Lillian worked as a certified nursing assistant at The Alverno in Clinton. Caring for people was always in her nature. She also enjoyed giving advice to those in need and always offered a faithful shoulder to cry on. Lillian loved life, and a big part of that was her contagious laugh. Above all, she loved her family dearly, and loved her faith and commitment to God. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Lillian is survived by her husband, Willie of Clinton; one daughter, Kori Vaughn of Clinton; three grandsons, J’Kar Vaughn, Javian Jones and Jarai Rodriguez; three sisters, Effie McGee of Bloomington, Carrie Carr of Sterling, Hazel Davis of San Diego; four brothers, Isaac (Earline) Marcer of Dixon, William Yarbrough Jr. of Dixon, Robert Yarbrough of Camden, New Jersey, and Wes Yarbrough of Washington, D.C.; two stepchildren, Roberta Peters and Duane Peters, both of Davenport, Iowa; and one step-grandson, Terrell of Davenport.

Preceding Lillian in death were her parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Macedonia Baptist Church in Sterling. The visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.
