Many thanks for success of Music in Motion event

Published: Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014 1:15 a.m. CST

We would like to thank all the sponsors, donors, participants, volunteers, and supporters of the 14th annual Music in Motion 5K run/walk on Aug. 2.

The monies raised go directly toward the purchase of orchestra instruments and supplies, which are provided to students who otherwise would be unable to participate because of financial constraints.

With this year’s run, we have now, over the years, raised about $19,000 for the orchestra program through this event alone.

We have many people to thank, including Sauk Valley Media, Compliance Signs, CGH Medical Center, Trevor and Karla Belzer, KSB Hospital, Ferris Dentistry, McCormick’s, Arthur’s Deli, Sterling Public Schools, Sterling Park District, Parkway Restaurant, CGH Ambulatory Services, Schuldt Entertainment, Octopus Car Wash, and the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office.

Also, thank you to our many friends and family who contributed financially and personally to its success.

Join us for the 15th running Aug. 1, 2015.

Note to readers: Barb Lauff is orchestra director for Sterling Public Schools.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
