CHAMPAIGN (AP) – Illinois police say a man has been charged with beating his 68-year-old father following an argument over a remote control.

The News-Gazette reports 40-year-old Troy Humphrey of Champaign was charged Monday with felony aggravated battery to a senior citizen.

Police say Humphrey’s father shot him in the shoulder to end the argument. They say the father visiting from Flint, Michigan, was defending himself and hasn’t been arrested or charged.

Police responded Saturday after they say Humphrey pushed his father out the door of a home and down the driveway.

Humphrey’s injury isn’t life-threatening, and he appeared in court Monday. His bond was set at $3,000, and he was ordered not to contact his father.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
