Sterling police looking for fire starter

STERLING – Police are still looking for the person or persons who set fires early Monday morning near Platt Park. As of Monday evening, no arrests had been made.

Around 5:25 a.m., police and firefighters were sent to the park at 1801 E. 15th St., where a garbage can was on fire. While they were on scene, a road barricade at East Sixth Street and 19th Avenue was reported on fire, and another barricade, at East Sixth and 18th Avenue, was found already burned.

The fires had been set with gasoline or a similar accelerant, a news release said.
