MOUNT MORRIS – A Chicago woman has been upgraded to serious condition with injuries she suffered in a head-on motorcycle crash last weekend that left two men dead.

Rosarita Gonzalez, 52, was flown to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center after being injured in a crash Aug. 3 that killed Michael Gonzalez, 52, of Chicago, and Richard Zimmerman, 67, of Lanark, and formerly of Mount Morris.

The accident remains under investigation. It could be several months before the crash report is done, a sheriff’s department spokeswoman said.

According to authorities, Zimmerman was eastbound on state Route 64 less than a mile east of Mount Morris when Michael Gonzalez, riding westbound, attempted to pass other westbound traffic and stuck Zimmerman head on.

The Gonzalezes apparently were riding with a group of at least 30 other motorcycles.
