Kudos for Night Out supporters

National Night Out was held Aug. 5 at many parks in Sterling and Rock Falls, including the Lincoln Park community. I would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to prepare for the events, with a special thanks to the many people who came out to participate in the various games, free food and drink, and especially the opportunity to visit and get acquainted with our neighbors.

Thanks to the efforts of the Kiwanis members, Judi, Carol, Jim and Dick; Pastor and family and members of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pr. Brandon, Katie, Gerad, Chad, Brian, Lisa, Sue, Dan, Jill, et al.

A special thanks, also, to Jeff, Tracy, and their dog, Phoenix, who performed an impromptu display of sporting tricks. We enjoyed the tricks and admired the well-trained behavior she displayed for the crowd.

DairyMart provided chips and salsa; Aaron’s brought water for the thirsty crowd and Phoenix. WeCAN served hot dogs, buns and chips, and the SPD and SFD were available for assistance and some hard labor. Thank you, FireHouse Ministry, for the bounce house.

Sorry for the names I missed – the list is longer than my memory.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
