State Rep. Mike Smiddy

State Rep. Mike Smiddy, D-Hillsdale, will be the guest of the Rock River Open Forum at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Rock Falls Public Library. The public is invited to participate. There is no charge.

Mike spoke with the forum prior to his victory in the 2012 November election. We found him to be open, honest and articulate. We have kept in contact with him and feel that he truly represents our area well in Springfield.

We would like Mike to describe his challenges, successes and disappointments during the past 2 years. We also would like to know his priorities for the common good of our state.

Please consider joining us Thursday. We believe that our democracy greatly depends upon citizens who insist on close relationships with their elected representatives.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
