STERLING – Alvin A. Nelson, 79, of Sterling, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at his home.

Alvin was born Nov. 28, 1934, in Chicago, to Hubert and Anne (Meisel) Nelson. He served in the Army. He married Betty (Gardner) Nelson on June 22, 1959, in Glenview. He was a member of 180 Church in Sterling.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Nancy (Jeff) Moran of Northbrook; two sons, Bruce (Sarah) Nelson of Nelson, New Zealand, and Tom (Judy) Nelson of St. Charles; one sister, Dr. Candace (Dr. David) Zeigler; two brothers, Maj. Gen. Ronald K. (Marian) Nelson and Perry S. (Clare) Nelson; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Heather Uber.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 16 at 180 Church in Sterling, with Paul Sheely, pastor, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to 180 Church in Sterling.
