Riders leave Workman Harley-Davidson in Rock Falls at the beginning of the 2013 Proud to Wear Pink ride. The ride will depart from the same location Aug. 16. Registration runs from 10 a.m. to noon.

ROCK FALLS – Team Underwires will present its seventh annual Proud to Wear Pink ride Aug. 16, beginning at Workman’s Harley-Davidson, 1903 First Ave.

Team Underwires is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating about breast cancer and raising funds to provide health care services for uninsured and underinsured patients.

According to a news release, co-founder and breast cancer survivor Sandi Ivey was inspired by a fellow motorcycle rider in need in 2008. The rider was afraid to check out the abnormality she felt in her breast, especially because she had no insurance.

Ivey learned of the CGH Health Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Prevention Program and helped the woman access the program. The experience inspired Ivey to create Team Underwires.

Registration runs the day of the ride from 10 a.m. to noon. The fee is $20 for adults, and $5 for this 15 and younger. Motorcycles and other vehicles are welcome to participate.

The ride is approximately 100 miles, stopping at fire stations, farms, and historical spots along the way.

Participants are encouraged to wear pink and enter the Proud to Wear Pink! contest.

The ride will end at Days Inn, 2105 First Ave. There will be live entertainment, a live and silent auction, a raffle, and dinner.

Proceeds will benefit CGH Health Foundation, Home of Hope, and Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
