Man, 90, dies from car accident injuries

He was a lifelong resident, farmer

MOUNT MORRIS – A Mount Morris man involved in a July car accident succumbed to his injuries this weekend at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, the Ogle County Coroner confirmed.

Darrel L. Strite, 90, was southbound on state Route 2 around 9:30 a.m. July 13 when he tried to turn onto Sink Hollow Road. His car was hit on the passenger side by a northbound car driven by Calista Gilszmer, 28, of Dixon, Lee County Sheriff John Varga said at the time.

Both were taken to KSB Hospital, but Strite was later flown to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. Gilszmer was treated and released.

Strite died early Saturday morning. His funeral was Tuesday at Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt St., Mount Morris. 

According to his obituary, Strite graduated from Mount Morris High School and was a lifelong farmer in Mount Morris.

No citations have been issued for the crash.
