LANARK – Several experts representing various utilities, engineering, planning and government agencies are expected to speak at an upcoming regional development conference.
The Blackhawk Hills Regional Council is sponsoring the Regional Development Summit: Energizing Tomorrow’s Economy. It begins with registration and a continental breakfast at 8 a.m. Aug. 15 at the Lake Carroll Clubhouse, 29-11 Ironwood Drive in Lanark.
The summit is designed primarily for public or nonprofit officials and staff, but it is open to anyone interested in development issues.
Speakers include John Robert Smith of Transportation for America, Washington, District of Columbia; Kathleen Field Orr of Kathleen Field Orr and Associates, a Chicago law firm specializing in local government law; and Donald Fournier, an energy consultant with the Illinois Association of County Board Members.
Meetings begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 2:30 p.m.; lunch will be available at 11:45 a.m.
The opening breakfast keynote session will tackle transportation and local governance issues, trends and opportunities. Tax increment financing and other economic development tools will be addressed at 10:45 a.m. The lunch keynote will focus on local and regional economic development, while the final session, at 1 p.m., will take a look at energy efficiency programs.
