ROCK FALLS – Lt. Linden Allen of Chicago has been named commander of the Army National Guard's 1644th Transportation Company.

Allen still will live in Chicago, and spend weekends with the Rock Falls-based unit. The commander position is a part-time post.

Allen most recently had been the executive officer with the 1244th Transportation Company in suburban North Riverside. While there, he was the 2013 Transportation Corps National Guard Officer of the Year.

He was recognized for his accomplishments at the annual Army Transportation Ball held July 25 in Richmond, Virginia.

In a news release, Capt. David Tanner, current commander of the 1244th, said Allen's leadership abilities were strengthened while deployed in Iraq.

"Allen consistently demonstrated his knowledge of transportation operations, planning, execution and development," Tanner said. "He epitomizes the selfless service all commissioned officers strive toward in supporting and serving their soldiers."
