Kenneth J. ‘Ken’ Moore

NEWPORT, N.C. – Kenneth John “Ken” Moore, 77, of Newport, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at his home. He served in the Navy for 20 years, and managed several different convenience stores after he retired.

Ken was born May 22, 1937, in Dixon, to Frank and Marian Petersen Moore.  

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; five daughters, Sheila (Eliando) Hencher of Newport, Tina (Keo) Thammavangsa of Mount Airy, Georgia, Stephanie (Tyron) Mann of Newport, Donna (George) Lightsey of San Diego, and Kimberly Heath; his son, Kenneth J. Moore Jr.; a sister, Margaret Henry of Delaware; two brothers, Paul Moore and Larry Moore, both of Illinois; his sister-in-law, Mary Moore of Rockford; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harlan “Pete” Moore; and his sister, Ellen Loftis.   

The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brooks Funeral Chapel in Newport, with the Rev. David G. Price officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home. Brooks Funeral Home & Crematory of Morehead City, North Carolina, is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials made be made to Newport Pop Warner ,106 Pinewood Drive, Newport, N.C.  28570.
