John E. Scheffler

FRANKLIN GROVE – John E. Scheffler, 75, of Franklin Grove, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center. He was a supervisor with Contel Phone Co. before his retirement.

Scheffler was born June 26, 1939, in Dixon, the son of Frank and Marian (Gonnerman) Scheffler. He married Pennelle Jones on March 28, 1963, in Hinesville, Georgia. She preceded him in death on Jan. 9, 2011.

Survivors include one son, John (Sarah Richardson) Scheffler of Addievelle; one daughter, Kim (Mike) Surratt of Maryland Heights, Missouri; one brother, Wes (Mary Theresa) Scheffler of Dixon; two sisters, Anna Lou Vale and Shirley Devine, both of Dixon; a special friend, Dolly Miller; and four grandchildren.

Scheffler also was preceded in death by one brother, Phillip Scheffler; and two sisters, Linda Dewey and Merna Heinaman.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, with a prayer service immediately following at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday at St. Peter United Church of Christ in Okawville, with the Rev. Bill Groennert officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery in Okawville.
