STERLING – An educational workshop on the Veterans Affairs Aid and Attendance Pension benefit will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at Heritage Woods of Sterling, 2205 Oak Grove Ave.

The benefit provides eligible veterans, or their surviving spouses, a tax-free, monthly pension of $1,130 to $2,085. To be eligible, veterans must have served 90 consecutive days or more, with at least 1 day during a wartime period. They also must meet medical and financial criteria. In some cases, higher-end net worth individuals are eligible. The benefit’s focus is on medical and eldercare expenses.

Organizers at the workshop will review the criteria. The program is free and open to the public. Registration is requested; call Heritage Woods at 815-625-7045.
