Joan Biermann

STERLING – Joan Biermann, 83, of Sterling, died peacefully Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her family and caregivers.

Joan was born Nov. 15, 1930, in Elmhurst, to William Joseph and Mary (Hartwig) Murphy. She married Charles Biermann on Jan. 22, 1954, in Lombard. He preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2012. Joan was an active member of the Sterling-Rock Falls community, and most notably, was a board member of Central National Bank; a board member of Sterling Public Library; and a member of the Sterling Garden Club. She enjoyed playing tennis, golf, bridge, and traveling, especially to Ireland.

Survivors include her two sons, Dave (Jenny) Biermann of Denver, and Rod (Rachel) Biermann of Larchmont, New York; two sisters, Helen Bogie of Frisco, Texas, and Pat (Ron) Miller of Chicago; one brother, Bill (Joey) Murphy, of Lombard; and seven grandchildren, Emma, Bridget, Henry, Anne, Sam, Will, and Alec Biermann.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Sterling. A memorial luncheon will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at Rock River Supper Club in Rock Falls. All who wish to attend are welcome. Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling is handling arrangements.

Donations may be made in honor of Joan Biermann to the Hospice of the Rock River Valley, who provided warm and loving care in the last few months of her life.
