Two road projects about to get under way

One will cut off access to Oppold Marina for 2 days

STERLING – Oppold Marina will be off limits for 2 days next week because of a road closure, Sterling Township said in a news release.

Stouffer Road south of Woodlawn Road, east of Sterling, will be closed from 9 a.m. Monday to 5 p.m. Tuesday for work on the railroad crossing on Stouffer.

There will be no access to the marina during the closure, and no signs advising motorists will be posted.

A longer project starting Thursday north of town will affect travel on Fulfs Road, between Freeport and Polo roads, the township said.

That 1-mile section of road is being resurfaced, and will be under construction until Aug. 11, weather permitting. Flaggers will be on hand.

Call Dana Stutzke, the township road commissioner, at 815-625-2785 for more information.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
